Fly to the Ice!

I'm still not packed and I'm not really worried about it. However, I did find out I can only take 75 lbs to the ice and at least 20 of that is the gear they give me to stay warm. I can't imagine taking 55lbs of stuff for six months, but I haven't ever weighed what I carry so who knows. My camera equipment is probably about 20 lbs.

I don't have any plans for my last few days in Colorado yet. A large part of me can't imagine walking away from Colorado right now. I love it and have begun to call it home. I plan on returning. On the other hand, working in Antarctica will be the experience of a lifetime. I'm sure that once I am there I won't spend a second looking back, but I've definitely spent a lot of time over the past few days looking at what I'll be missing.

  1. What photo equipment are you planning to take with you? I can't remember if you have a DSLR or not, or how they react in extreme cold.... Seamus and I will send you photos from Thanksgiving by the way, and pos. from Christmas as well, since he's thinking of inviting everyone over then as well.

  2. I'm taking a Canon 10D with a 24-70mm and 70-200mm lens.

  3. Nice! I'm planning on getting a Canon EOS 5D just after the holidays when the prices (hopefully) come down a bit more.
